Curriculum Vitae
Giles Wayne Casaleggio was an associate professor at Saint John's University for 35 years in The College of Professional Studies. In addition to teaching Criminal Justice courses, he has been Director of the Security Administration Program and taught in the Criminal Justice Leadership Graduate School. Casaleggio obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1972. He attended The University of Tennessee Law School and received his Juris Doctorate from Saint John's University in 1972. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and The Criminal Law Institute. He was admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey and before The United States Supreme Court. His previous career included experience as a trial, grand jury and chief investigative prosecutor.
He has been a member of the New Jersey Criminal Justice Educators Association, American Association of University Professors, St. John's University Faculty Association, The New Jersey State Law Enforcement Officers Association, The New Jersey Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association, The New Jersey Conference of Mayors and The St. John's University Alumni Association.
Professor Casaleggio’s law enforcement writing has been featured in Case and Comment Magazine, vol 79, no 2, The Police Chronicle, vol 2, no 12, and The Narc Officer, vol XI, no IV. He has been a national conference speaker before the Society of Professional Investigators on security education, the National Cargo Security Council on narcotics abuse and the Connecticut Narcotics Officers Association on organized crime. In 2013 he published "Management Methods From The Mafia," a text on Criminal Justice Leadership. In 2014 he received "The Craig Collins Award" for distinguished faculty of the St John's University, College of Professional Studies, Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Homeland Security. In 2017 he published a novel, "Magistrate in Mobster-Ville, The Strategies and Struggles of a Prosecuting Attorney Battling Crime and Corruption in Cajun Country," and in 2018 he published, "Lore Enforcement, The Need to Make American Justice Relate Again." A 2nd edition of "Magistrate in Mobster-Ville , published in 2019, includes four additional chapters to the original text. In 2021 he published "Criminal Law for Non-Criminals, 100 Most Misunderstood Legal Principals, Clarified," "Cops in The Wilderness, How The Covid-19 Pandemic Impacted Rural Policing," "Mafia-crats of New York, A Detective's costly Crusade Against Mob-inspired Corruption," and "Gangster in The White House, Imagining another kind of Don as President of The United States," The Ravioli Racketeer, New Jersey's Biggest Mobster," and "Gangster in The White House, Campaign 2024 Edition."
Casaleggio began his legal career in 1972 as a law clerk in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York where he worked on the case involving domestic terrorism by an organization known as "The Weather Underground." From 1973 to 1985, He served as assistant prosecutor in Union and Passaic Counties in New Jersey where he handled jury trials involving violent crimes such as robbery, rape, homicide, organized crime and police misconduct. He became Chief Assistant Prosecutor in Passaic and Morris Counties where he supervised their organized crime and narcotics enforcement task forces. He received specialized training in electronic surveillance investigation at the Cornell University Institute on Organized Crime and specialized in the application, supervision and jury trials of wiretap cases. He became a lecturer on search and seizure and the execution of search warrants and was designated as an instructor for The New Jersey Police Training Commission. In 1985, He was appointed to the position of New Jersey Deputy Attorney General and assigned to investigate cases of political corruption, law enforcement misconduct and organized crime. One of his electronic surveillance investigations involved a member of a domestic terrorist group termed "The Black Liberation Army" responsible for the murder of a New Jersey State Trooper. He later co-authored the New Jersey Attorney General Edward's State Narcotics Action Plan and was designated as supervisor of Northern New Jersey operations of The State Police Narcotic Unit. In 1988, He entered local politics in New Jersey and was sworn to the position of mayor of his community by the former New Jersey Attorney General Cary Edwards.
